The idea that Amiga has less support is totally unrealistic. When both
systems were supported, there were a dozen Amiga software titles for one
A2 title. After *all* major software companies quit making A2 versions,
they continued to make Amiga versions, and several may still support the
Amiga. I saw Amiga games in stores for at least two years after all A2
games were gone! Also, there are several companies supporting Amiga only
that are still out there.
And, you can still buy new models of Amigas. They are being made by
what was the European division of the origional Commodore, and they have
some really super high-end machines. And they, like earlier versions of
the Amiga, are being snapped up by lots of companies that are into video
or movie production, an area where A2 was never considered except as a
hobby machine for some poor smuck in a movie.
What do we have for new machines in the A2 line? A company making a
stripped down version of the //e. They should have at least made it a GS
compatable! Who wants and machine with such poor graphics as a //e in
todays market?
What do we have for support?
A few individuals, or perhaps a few companies with two or three employees
who provide what would be considered abominal support by IBM users.
Granted, there is no money to do anything better than that, so I cannot
blame any of the people or tiny companies who still try to eke out a
meager living supporting the A2. Hopefully they can provide support for
this new A2 clone and perhaps show a meager profit.
I love the GS, and I don't feel that there is anything currently available
that can perform as it does. Sure, there are faster systems, and bigger
systems, but none of them are decent machines, with good hardware and
software combined. The Amiga would be my second machine of choice,
even thou it lacks a decent GUI, followed by a Mac and then by an IBM.
Strangely enough, the most recent Mac OS still doesn't have features of
GS/OS which it *should* have. Why not, Apple? Is it because the 68xxx
is not as good as the 65816? Is it sloppy design?
John, sorry if you *think* I wasted your time with this rant!
