   Since the drive powers up and its light flickers, I'd assume the
drive is at least somewhat ok. At this point, I'd recommend opening it
up and making sure that all cables inside are ok; it sounds like for
some reason, the drive is not talking to any computer.

   Reformatting the drive won't be an issue until the computers can at
least see it.
