Perhaps you can, but then there's the cost of the development facilities.
Not pennies, in most cases.

Sigh. You haven't seen (or weren't impressed by) the amazing variety of
things people have done with the Apple2.

All of which will cost significantly more than picking up a II from
the local thrift store or yard sale.

And we certainly wouldn't want to expose their impressionable minds
to the archaic Model T Ford because it's so alien to what we use now!
