Re: GEOS Software...
Concerning the GEOS software bundles for the Apple II computer; I
contacted the last known copyright holderand was informed that he was
unsure if he had any rights or authority for the programs as ported to
the Apple II platform and I then contacted the legal eagles from the
original company in Berkeley, CA - about the remote possibilities of
having the GEOS software ports for the Apple II computer reclassified as
freeware (for legal distribution to the public) via ftp and/or www sites
- about 3 months ago.
In general - I was informed that as a result of red-tap, past disputes
of ownership, copyright problems, etc. the request was not possible.
According to the information I obtained in the tel-con the individual
states that he really wasn't certain of just who owned the rights to the
GEOS for the Apple II computers and there was no method to find any
clear and concise proof of exactly who does hold the copyright to GEOS
for the Apple II computers. So, it's no longer available other than via
used retailers of Apple II software - if and when you can find it from
any of them.
For use with Apple II emulators - an alternative that should present no
legal problems from the unknown copyright holders might be to simply
make all of the GEOS programs for the Apple II computers available via
somebody uploading them as disk images to Asimov.
Cheers,
Tom
