DSK.GZ files on a GSII

Could anyone explain how I can use the the many DSK.GZ files I have found at various FTP sites.  I am using an apple IIGS with (2) 3.5 800k drives.  I have used a program to convert them to .ZIP format then used a program called ANGEL to unzip but then all I have is a DSK file.  From reading various FAQ's, I get the impression I may need a 5.25 drive to use thes files.  I would like to be sure before I go hunting for a drive.
