   This normally affects people who download files through a
Macintosh, but also GS-specific files also. The Macintosh (and this
feature was later moved to the GS) have the ability to take a file and
store two independently accessible parts or 'forks' to the file.

details in the downloading section how not to have a Macintosh add a
fork. Otherwise, the files you're trying to unpack are most probably 
GS programs and the fork is necessary-- use GS Shrinkit to unpack
them correctly.
