Appleworks files on Apple II as

Need to get zillions of speeches stored in Appleworks files on Apple
II as moved into an indexing system. Know Macs inside and out; quite
well actually, but not the Apple II line.

questions:
1)	 where can I get specs on Apple II as model?
2)	I understand they used 5 1/4 in floppies - how to get info off
of this, or can I use LocalTalk to hook up to a Mac?
3)	Is AppleWorks the precursor to ClarisWorks?
4)	Can word read AppleWorks?
5)	Have I been misinformed? Is what I'm told is an "Apple II as"
really an "Apple II gs"
