Re: Make your own RGB monitor
I'm trying to find an old link i had where other people used TV's to
make RGB monitors for arcade units & whatever. This was like a
couple of years ago and they didn't use the new tv's stuff. I
remember it because I suggested a better chip to grab sync out then
the LM881 they used.
Honestly, if I wasn't the proud owner of 3 amiga montors and 1 cga/ega
that does both 15khz & 31khz, i would mind trying to find an modern
china tv to do this on. Providing the TV was big enough.
Here's my situation.
I have a 1080p LCD tv. While stuff on DVD look okay (640x480), it's
at the end of okay looking stuff. Try to even play stuff on a
playstation 2, while connected thru componet looks like crap on the
1920x1080 tv.
I had an older, 1987 29" TV, but it only had cable tv inputs, if you
don't want to count the screws where you put the old school antenna/
connecters. Needless to say, I trashed the TV, kept it's wood case
because it makes a great place to hold my consoles, and my new tv sits
on top of it.
But being into old computers, consoles, I find that my amiga monitors
are cool, but a little small.
I want a decent size TV/Monitor, thats at least 26", does 15 - 31 hz,
that has at the very least, componet hook ups. Am I asking too
much? Oh ya, i don't want to spend any money on it. lol
I do have a composite/super video to VGA adaptor (got it with the ps2
i have), which I'm debating on checking out, like on one of my bigger
monitors. Don't think there'd be any point in testing it on my tv,
seeing as it probably defaults to 640x480.
I currently have my IIgs hooked to my Sony CPD-1302, which I got with
my Amiga 1200, so they have to share. =) Of course, it's in bad
shape and honestly, not sure how long the monitor will last.
I can always hook my Iigs to my amiga monitors, so it's not like i'm
in trouble if it breaks. Guess though i'm spoiled, don't like
interlaced stuff. Never like it in the 90's, and guess i got to used
to not dealing with it too much in the 2000's. =)
Think i'm going to be watching craigslist and see if there's anyone
giving away a TV that might be hackable.
