I found the older USRobotics Sportsters reliable, but the ones
manufactured in recent years rather flakey (eg, circa 1995+). Last
year I went through two USR Sportster 14.4K modems before finally
giving up and taking them back. I'm now using a 1992 Sportster 14.4K
which works fine however (my brother donated it to me, after I found
him a fairly cheap Sportster 33.6K modem and let him have the deal :)
The case is a bit dinged up and it has that awful Piezo (?) speaker,
but it does work fine with ProTERM, Spectrum, ANSITerm and even
FAXination and PMPFax. :)
