Thanks to everyone for their replies. It looks like the
decision is between Spectrum and ProTerm. Most people
seemed to endorse ProTerm, even though Spectrum may have
some nice extra features.
I've decided to go with ProTerm 3.1 with the handshaking
cable.

I tried Intrec, but their number doesn't work from Canada.
So I called Scantron, and they have both the program and
the cable in stock. I'm expecting it in about a week...
Which leads me to a late question. I'm sure the answer is
"yes", but I'll ask it anyway: Is ProTerm 3.1 hard-drive
installable?
