Well, I've since solved my problem [the mac believed these documents
had some wierd creator-id, so it didn't write them as pdos text files;
changing the mac file-type/creator to TEXT/pdos made it work] but
speaking as someone who's just gone through it, I think that would be
a major win.  If something in the faq had just said "download this
.hqx and uncompress it onto a prodos disk; you're done" it would have
made my task much easier.  Probably there should be one for GS's and
one for 8-bit machines.

BTW thanks to the various folk (you know who you are) who replied with
helpful suggestions.
