ImageWriter II Loop Back Failure

I received a call from an Imagewriter II owner that bought his printer
at a garage sale with no manuals. Unfortunateluy, I own an Imagewriter
I and thus couldn't help him using my manuals.

His problem, he cannot print to the printer from his IIgs even though
the printer came with the appropriate cable.

When he trys the following test:

1. Hold print quality down
2. Turn on power
3. Release print quality

He gets the following printout on the printer:

ROM Rev  (01)
Dip Sw 1 (00000100)
Dip Sw 2 (1100) /1 = on, 0 = off/
About 4 blank lines followed by:
Loop Back Test Fails

At this point the error light goes on the IW II.

Any idea how he should proceed?
