First off, my system is a Rom3 GS, and there was 5megs installed
on the card, but now I have 4 on it. When I first installed it, the total
memory listed in the "about system" window was about 7.2 Megs. It

The GS-Ram-plus card works either for the ROM01 or ROM03, not for both.
If you purchazsed he board from a ROM01 user, it wouldnt work on your ROM03.
What you need to check is what kind of chip you have in the upper right:
ROM01 reuires chip GSPLD1A.1
ROM03 requires chip GSPLD1B.1
