Although the PFS file could be converted to a text file for use on a Mac,
the fact that you mention it is a genealogical file means it will not be in
a form you could use directly with a current genealogy program. In
genealogy, there is a standard for data conversion between programs, called
GEDCOMM (Genealogicla Data Communication). PFS was developed before the
GEDCOMM standard.
However, after the data is converted to ASCII on a Mac, you may be able to
manipulate it into the GEDCOMM format for import. You may be able to get
the specifications for GEDCOMM from the Genealogical Library of the Church
of Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake City (they developed that format, which is
essentially based on their Personal Ancestral File [PAF] program).
By the way, PAF program for genealogy exists in three formats: Apple II,
Mac, and MS-DOS. Unfortunatlely, they no longer update or support the Apple
II version, and they essentially "encourage" use of just the MeSsyDOS
version.
