I also have the alpha version... As the notes say, it
will compile your source, but will do little else.  Major
parts of it are hacks of GS/OS (like scanning c000 instead
of using the keyboard buffer).

I'm currently in a compiler course, and gradually working
on the compiler for M16, but it will take some time.

If an alpha version of this program is out in less than
a year, y'all should be surprised.  GNO compatibility
is likely, though not guaranteed.  Etc, etc, etc.  Check
alt.bbs.metal.  I replied to a post by Doede about a week
ago; it may still be there: it covers possible enhancements
for m16.
