Re: Utterly Depressing

Lane, as a fairly new reader of this group, I sure understand where
you are coming from. The Apple user's groups that I grew up with
were full of fun people, excited to help each other learn something
new about the $2,000 investment they had just made in their 48k Apple
II+. No question was a dumb question, because we each had asked
the same question earlier, and someone had taken the time to answer
it for us.

For the most part, the authors in this newsgroup seem to be of the
same ilk. When I have floated a question, I have received some very
kind answers. The tone is sometimes different. (Maybe this is because
in the early days, you saw each other face to face. If someone got
too cute or rude, they were either ostracized from the group, or
someone just smacked them. This tended to keep the group fairly civil.)

I hope that you will not give up on the group. I still run my Apple
IIgs nearly every day. I am typing this from work, on a Compaq. But
at home, I can't bring myself to switch from my first love, the Apple
II. And there are darned few of us left that remember the passion
of the old days, and in takes the 'Net to bring us together.

For others reading this....PLEASE, tone it down! This group really does
not have to sound like Crossfire to be constructive!

Apple II forever!
