Oh fine, let's talk about depressions. Guess why I have picked the nickname
Marvin? Well, read the Hitchhiker's Guide book five. It describes perfectly
how a business starts with a group of enthusiastic people with new ideas and
how it changes to a dull, bureaucratic, greedy and arrogant company.
Even the Woz has admitted that Apple has changed from a quality-driven to
a marketing-driven company. The flame wars on comp.sys.apple2 are only the
top of the iceberg. How about the upper management in Cupertino who left us
out in the cold? How about the 'elite' club in IRC #appleiigs who talks
abouts everything else but the Apple II gs and insults everyone else? How
about these vendors who preferred to sell that other computers because they
can make more money with it? How about Apple Europe who has never
advertised the IIgs in Europe? How about all these customers who have been
scared by that arrogant behaviour and bought a PC instead? And the rest of
the IIgs community spends their time with flame wars...
The Apple isn't that benign garage computer anymore. The Apple is an
Empire now and much has changed to the worse. But like the Roman Empire
these rotten Apple Empire will finally break and history will repeat itself.
The true Apple II spirit is still here if you look for it closely.
Feel free to visit my Homepage for the latest depressions. You will find a
link to the Douglas Adams fan page where you can download the Hitchhiker's
guide, but like the stuff on Asimov you should BUY a copy if you like it.
Read the story and laugh. Laughing is the best medicine... ;)
