II-Alive - Hydra??

In the Summer 1996 issue of II-Alive, in the 'Rumors, Facts & Fables'
section there is an article entitled 'New GS?' by Jeff Hurlburt.

This article speaks of the Mark Twain and then goes on to describe a
machine called "Hydra". It's claimed that the specs for the machine were
discovered on Apple's web site. Hydra supposedly boasts "a 20MHz 65C816
and 40-50MHz 68040" and would "place a faster GS and a Mac plus piles of
built-ins (even the display) in/on a single box".

Being interested in such a possible machine, I spent some time conducting
a diligent search of Apple's webspace. I found no such references to the
Hydra. Well, I did find a serial cable named "Hydra" but that can quite
count as a machine ;)

After further searching on the web, I found a page from a reputable source
that describes the machine: http://www.tcmac.com/hydramac.html Many of the
features Jeff mentioned in his article are listed here. Even the picture
is the same :)

However, the machine has a 33MHz 68030 processor - not a 40-50MHz 68040.
Also, a 65C816 chip is not even mentioned and the ablilty to run GS
software is not even hinted at. Obviously, someone is in error. I doubt
the web page I found is wrong because they _actually had access to the
machine_ and were in the best position to give the facts.

I suspect that Jeff and/or Mr. Turley (who supplied most of the
information for the article) will be reading this. What I want to ask both
of you is: where do I find the specs to back up what you stated? If
possible, I'd like the URL of the information found on Apple's web site.
Don't say it's been removed from the site because there are ways of
getting it anyway :)

A split Mac/GS machine would be cool, but until I see facts that show it
to be real, I'll file this article under the "Fables" folder.
