You cannot connect a superdrive to the IIGS external connector, you need
to obtain the rare superdrive controller card for the Apple IIe or GS and
connect to it, otherwise you will only get an 800K Disk.

The major problem is finding a card, I sold my last spare for $150.00 a
couple of weeks back.  The IIGS cannot run a 1.44 Superdrive in full
function without one.
