Text Color w/ DrawChar()

I'm using DrawChar() to do a little bit of text output to the SHR screen,
but I can't seem to get any combination other then black/white to work.

I have the screen in 640x200 mode (necessary, 320x200 won't work).  I used
a call to Desktop() to set the desktop pattern to solid (dithered) black.

The background color (via SetBackColor()) and the background pattern (via
SetSolidBackPat()) are black.  The foreground color (via SetForeColor())
is white.  Everything works fine.  If I change the foreground color to
anything else, (yellow, blue, green640, or red640), any text printed shows
up in black, i.e. invisible.

Is there a trick to getting DrawChar() to print in anything besides black
and white?
