You can use a Mac+ to imagewriter I (not II) cable if you want to use the
GS serial port.  You should be able to find the cable almost anywhere.

As Nathan pointed out, you can use drivers in the Harmony or Independence
package.

Yes, I do own a deskjet 500C and it has both serial and parallel ports.
