I download files on my Quadra and my PowerBook all the time, to use in IIe
(the emulator) and to use on my IIgs. Downloading in binary mode has
worked 100% of the time for me. I don't even have the fork stripper.
Files survive transfer on both 800k disks, and on 1.44mb disks in my
floptical, as well as through my network, which stops at a Mac IIsi to
switch from Ethernet to LocalTalk to get to my IIgs.

They must have been mistaken. Personally, I have never once run into this
problem.
