Disk II Problem

I just got out my Disk II interface and drives to create some disks
for my student organization (they need a computer, so I'm lending
them an Apple //e).

Here's the problem:  drive one is inconsistent in reading the disk.
Sometimes it reads the disk, sometimes it doesn't (and GS/OS gives
me a dialog about an unreadable disk).

Drive two works, however.  To further narrow the problem, I switched
the connectors on the card, so the drive labeled 2 is in fact mapped
to 1 and vice versa.

I would like to unshrink some disk images; however, disk images can
only be unpacked to s6d1, not s6d2 (I've tried both Unimage and
Dsk2File).  Is there a fix to either program to use s6d2, or,
possibly, can anyone diagnose the problem with the card?

Oh, and BTW, when I try to unpack an image to the disk, it writes the
first few sectors and hangs (running) on Track 1, Sector 0.
