The comp.sys.apple2 Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) posting, which
was sent out just 2 days ago to this newsgroup gives an answer to this
question. Your news server should have that posting still around (it
was posted such that it should stick around until October 1st;
complain to your ISP's uisenet admins if their software is broken and
ignores that); if you decided to ignore all old articles before posting
(a very bad habit), you can view the FAQ on the WWW at

As IBM and Apple II 3.5" and 5.25" disk formats are different at a
hardware level, you will need (rare) addon hardware to overcome the
gap. The recommended method is to connect the two with a null modem
and do a straight serial connection between the two. You will need a
comm program on the Apple II side; I list several sources in the FAQ
as to getting one via the mail for $3.
