Are you high? BeatBox is "not too good"?! It is one of the *best*
programs written for the IIGS, ever. And especially so once you
consider it was written part-time and is only a beta. And have you
ever run a .MOD song and then quit the application? The song still
plays! While in the Finder! Come on. When you have 64k (~60k really)
of DOCRAM and playing a 6-voice song totalling 400k and there are
no skips/stutters/pauses and the Finder still works on a 2.8MHz
pseudo-16-bit-CPU, now *that* is programming! :)
The MED song format is more flexible than MOD, ie it supports
a larger range of special music effects for samples (hold notes
or somesuch), and it much harder to do given the inherent IIGS
"stock" difficulties playing large intricate songs. MED has only
gotten popular on the Amiga, while MOD is still going strong for
all platforms (kinda a lowest common denominator of song formats).
What the hell, I might as well share. Everyone FTP to
ftp.cdrom.com in the pub/demos directory and look for the mod
directory (there should be one in incoming/songs or something
like that). There are new MODs to be had almost every day if you
look. I just wish we could make them on the IIGS....
