There's an updater that you should be able to find on ground or caltech
that will update Pointless to 2.0.3.

That sounds like you have an Icon conflict. You could start by dragging
your invisible Desktop file (found in your Icon folder) to the trash. If
the problem persists, look around on ground or caltech for Bill Tudor's
Icon Application Checker. That program will scan through all your Icons
and tell you when it finds problems and/or conflicts.
