Yes, the Quadlink sits between the disk controller and the drives, and when
it's not active, it seems to pass the IBM disk signals straight through.
The same theory occurred to me a few days ago, so I tried it with the drive
cables just connected to the Quadlink and not the IBM disk controller. It
didn't work...when the Quadlink was ready for the Filer disk, the disk drive
just sat there inertly--no in-use light, no spinning, no nothing.
Apparently the disk drive requires some signals from the IBM controller even
when the Quadlink is active.
