Apple IIe

I've just got hold of an Apple IIe with one 5-1/2" Drive. It's been alot of
years since I last used one, but I couldn't stand to see it being thrown
out with the rubbish!

When I switch it on, it comes up with the 'Apple ][' logo on the screen and
the disk drive runs. However I can't get a prompt of any sort that I can
type at. Do I need a disk to boot it from ??

ISTR from my previous Apple II days that this wasn't the case. I don't have
any manuals or disks, so details of how to create a boot disk (if needed)
would be greatly appreciated.
