I agree with all that is said, as I use a 1084s-d on my kids Apple
IIgs (which should be very similar to a 1080). The only proviso that I
will add is that if your 1080 is one of the older variety, you may
have synch issues if you simply follow the process outlined in the
Apple II FAQ. When making the cable for my (older model) 1084s, I had
to put a variable resistor (a 200Ohm pot) into the cable to drive the
synch levels down.

Post 14 by Michael Majon outlines the mod I ended up performing which
resolved my synch issues.
Hopefully you won't need to do this, but if you do, you are now armed
with the knowledge!
