PT3 / PINE quirk

  When I call into to one of the host computers I use, and read my mail 
with PINE, when I quit out of it for the rest of the session my keypad 
(including the enter key) generate garbage.
  Can anyone explain where this problem is coming from?  Is it possible 
that it's screwing up things at my end?
