I have a 14 MHz chip in my Zip board right now running at 8 MHz.  You
need the oscillator upgrade if you want the chip to move faster.
Faster SRAMs (or larger capacity) are required so the processor doesn't
have to wait for data transfer.  The 74HC00 chip is also required to
replace the 74C00 (of the two at the bottom, the one on the right) for
the board to go above some speed.
