I have never even considered buying a CD-ROM drive for my IIgs. There
simply aren't enough disks available to justify it.
I do own one Apple II CD-ROM: the System 6 Golden Master.
To access it, I borrowed a CD-ROM drive from a friend, and copied the
useful stuff to a hard drive partition.
I now have a more convenient solution: my new PowerMac has an internal
CD-ROM drive, and it is possible to access this over AppleTalk. It
doesn't provide access to the ProDOS partitions on the CD-ROM (it might if
there was no HFS partition on the disk), but this is not a problem for the
one CD I want to access.
On occasion, I've had a Mac here with an external CD-ROM drive. For those
occasions, I moved the drive over to the IIgs when I had need for it.
