The only stupid question is the unasked question.
In some ways, CheckWorks does duplicate some of the functions of
Quicken when it comes to writing checks, reconciling balances, etc.
Of course, there are major differences too.
For starters, Quicken is no longer supported or sold by Intuit, and
CheckWorks is supported and offered for only $20. Additionally,
CheckWorks works from within AppleWorks versions 3 through 5 as a
TimeOut module. It gives you pop up menus within AppleWorks, and
because it works with any printer that works with AppleWorks, you can
use CheckWorks with DeskJets and LaserJets and a 100+ other printers.
That said...if you're completely content with Quicken, then you might
not need or want CheckWorks. But, if you don't like Quicken or
Financial Genius, then CheckWorks might fill all your checking
account needs.
