I'm outta here (well, only winternet)

Well, winternet's admins are the biggest bunch of monkeys typing
randomly in the machine room. I can't tell if they've produced Hamlet
yet, but as computers are far more picky than humans, they've managed
to destroy a nice stable system to one with more downtime than the
Titantic or certain recent airline disasters. Email works
sporadically, same with the main machines. They've also been mucking
with the email machine configurations over the last few days, so who
knows what the heck is up with all email near winternet.

I also think they don't have a clue about security or anything--
their idea of fixing pingbombs was to disable ping. [An admin with a
clue would trace the problem, not ignore it] There's also been
unconfirmed reports of account breakins, which if it's true, it's
pretty easy to hack other accounts on the system. [A lack of a
reassuring "We have this under control" message is not cool either.]

As of 7/25/96, roughly 9:30AM, my account with winternet will go
bye-bye. The admins might be able to keep the system up and running
to forward email, but I wouldn't count on that. Please use my Caltech
accounts, nathan@cco.caltech.edu, and nathan@ugcs.caltech.edu for now.

Thank you for making this transition as painless as possible.
