Message titles are handled within the news/mail application programs, not by
Prodos directly. These programs should have access to the full ASCII character
set, so if they do not handle [ or ], that is a deficiency in those programs.
Having worked with systems from micros to mainframes since 1978, I can
sympathize with a user stuck with software that does not allow the full ASCII
character set. However, the ][ was the way it was and is used on early Apples.
We here eliminate from consideration software that has such arbitrary
restrictions on characters. If you chose to use software that limits you, that
is your choice and the rest of the world should not have to change their ways
to accommodate you.
