You probably want to get this in disk format. The latest system
software is IIGS System 6.0.1, a six disk set available from Joe Kohn
at http://www.crl.com/~joko

Being a UNIX user, you will want GNO/ME, the multitasking UNIX command
compatible shell for the IIGS. I have absolutely no experience with
this software, but others rave about it. It can be found in
EGO Systems' catalog at http://www.hypermall.com/ego/index.html

Knowing PC-DOS you will want COMMAND.COM for ProDOS 8 as well,
available from Joe Kohn or ftp sites. A DOS work alike for the Apple.

The UNIX clone works with native 16-bit IIGS software (like Windows
works with native graphical software). COMMAND.COM only works with
8-bit software running under ProDOS 8 (just like older DOS based
PC software needs PC/MS-DOS).

Parallels: Apple OS PC OS
             -------------------------------------------------------
                Finder for GS/OS Windows
                ProDOS 8 PC/MS-DOS
                GNO/ME UNIX
                COMMAND.COM for ProDOS 8 COMMAND.COM for DOS
