: Great, so we'll have a moderated discussion group and an unmoderated
: binaries group? (A vote was once held to moderate the binaries group,
: and it failed. Do you think moderating a discussion group has a better
: chance?)

Why not leave the group alone, and have a mailing list created where
someone can filter the newsgroup traffic into it? Automoderation can be
used at this level. People can then subscribe to either. I thought there
was one; INFO-APPLE-L or some such.

Although it utterly baffles me why people need help in controlling their
own actions. I'd be ashamed to have to admit I couldn't prevent myself
from reading things that I didn't want to read, from people I didn't want
to read things from.

Everybody has a killfile. It's called discretion.

Besides, I'm not so sure you can change a newsgroup from unmod to mod,
can you? I think you might have to start a new one.

Having moderated the Fidonet Apple Echo for several years, I can say it
can be rewarding for the right person, given a good group of people to
work with. In fact, find a Fido BBS and check it out. Last I saw it was
still going fine. It might serve as an example, or as an alternative.
But having been on Usenet for 10 years, I can honestly say I wouldn't
touch it.

There's sites that can mirror Fido newsgroups. ConnectAmerica is one, but
he's not interested in mirroring any more. He can tell someone how though.

If this does happen, consider merging it with the Fido traffic. The
entire feed would be premoderated and there's good people on it.

I nominate Joe. Put it together and run it. But to be fair to those
people who *don't* want it and already have this group, it ought to be
something different, group, list or what have you. You want some tips,
mail me. I must have done a pretty good job because I've never had a
complaint that wasn't cleared up as a misunderstanding. But don't ask me
to help. I served my time.
