     If your monitor is already ON and you power-up your GS, you will get
to see stuff like the checkerboard which reflects whatever happens to be
in display memory before the display is set up. The display is quickly
cleared. Users who power-up the monitor and computer at the same time do
not usually see the checkerboard.
