Zip GSX
I am now thoroughly impressed with my system. I used to run on a ROM 1
IIgs with a 7/8k Zip GSX. A nice system, but kinda... blah.
At least, when compared to my current set-up.
I upgraded the Rom 1 to a Rom 3 Motherboard, and found 4 15ns 32k x 8 chips
at a local Computer Renaissance ($16 for the set! I couldn't believe it!).
For the past two days, I've been soldering on the board... it's a wonderful
feeling to finish a chunk of the work, plug it in, and see no smoke. :)
Anyway... for people still stuck with an 8k cache... installing a 64k cache
is definitely the way to go. I also performed the "Split Cache" modification,
and the speed difference under Finder was notable. Not just a little perkier,
almost instantly responsive. Made it almost feel like a bigger processor.
(for the few who may care, my next mod will be dropping in a faster-rated
processor (it's currently stamped with "-6"), and also slipping the 48
Mhz crystal in instead of the 28.3220. that should be a bit perkier, too. :) )
anyway... seeyas all around. this lightning-fast system is going to go do
real speed testing... ("how fast can you display the .jpg's?")
