How is that cost effective? I've looked at it... it just didn't tickle me
as a good idea. It drains a lot of power from the computer power
supply, which is already a little on the small side.
Besides... It's more cost effective to get a SCSI controller and external
SCSI HD case from alltech, and then look in Computer Shopper for a
SCSI drive. I forget which company it is ("... Discount Drives" maybe),
but they had a 210 meg SCSI drive listed for about $69 last i checked.
It works fine with my RAMFast C, i can only imagine it will work swell with
the other, cheaper controllers out there. Admittedly, I got my
RAMFast as used equipment, but still... my drive system
only cost $150 for 200 megs, and how much are they charging? It'd be less
with a less expensive controller, too.
I like Alltech a lot, really. But some things just don't make sense.
(btw: assembling a system like that isn't real difficult, either, if
you have some idea of how to wield a screwdriver and can figure out
how to plug the red wire into pin 1.)
