I just saw one of these recently and was surprised I have never heard of
it before. It is a tiny little 4 meg card, about the size of a business
card. It uses 1 meg x 4 ZIP RAM chips, meaning two chips makes one meg.
Does anybody have experience with these? How about a good source for the
chips? I'm thinking of getting it, but it is only populated to 2 Megs.

Yes, Preferred Computing had a price list 1992 and advertised it
0k $85.00
4Meg $299.00

Like most AE stuff, GS RAM III was fairly pricey. AE had some kind of
trade-in-your-old-1MB-board deal and other discounts; so, the final price
was not too horrendous. For $139 + trade-in AE would send the board with
2MB plus utilities diskette and manual. AE's original no-trade-in price
for a 4MB board was $499! The 1992 $299 price is fairly typical; the GS
RAM III has always sold for more than competing boards.

AE also offered a 2MB Expander board to bring total expansion RAM up
to 6MB.

GS RAM III uses 1MBx4 70-80ns NEC D424400V or Toshiba TC514402 Zip
package RAMS. Each is about the size of a 74xx series IC; but, the little
feets are all on one edge. 1MB (2-chip) sets sold for about $60.

It takes just 8 Zip RAMs to fully populate a board. GS RAM III is
very compact and, at 50-60ma per 1MB, draws much less current than many
4MB memory expansions. GS RAM III has a good reputation among both
designers and users.
