AW displays an 80x24 line text screen. From what I remember of a
friend's '286 version of Wordperfect, this is about the same amount
you get with a DOS word processor on a PC. I can't see how this
can be any worse that any programs on an XT (which use 80x25).

As for learning curve, it is really a very easy to use program.
All the commands are in "Open Apple" mnemonics. For example, OA-S
means save, OA-P is for printing, etc. You can guess at most of
the other ones...(spell checking? OA-V, V is for verify, etc.)

The big formatting command is OA-O, for options. OA-O brings up
the formatting options menu and is probably the most important.

You can see how the page will print out by printing to the screen,
but I forget the command for this.

WordPerfect for the GS (I think) uses a custom pseudotext screen
that is actually graphics. It will still display 80x24 (80x25?)
characters, but it will, in addition, show underline, italics, and
may have a full page preview - which shows a graphical
representation of a page and where everything goes. In this shrunk
page preview mode, you won't be able to read the text, though.

The commands are probably similar to the PC version, usually with
the Open Apple/Command key replacing the the Alt key. That's my
guess based on what I've read about it.

WPGS used to come from WordPerfect corp, but isn't published
anymore. You should be able to find a used copy in the marketplace.

I'm sorry that you didn't like AW5.0 and hope that Scantron QC
has a refund policy. But if they let you try it for a time,
you might want to keep it for a while. It is really quite good
once you've got all the commands down.

In fact, according to Joe Kohn(?), a year or two ago someone
wrote a psychology textbook on it.
