Unless you have money to burn, forget about the Apple I- they're collector's items (and not the casual collector, either).
I, too, am a collector of vintage computers. From my past experience, you'll usually find your best treasures in the most obscure places.
I've gotten a lot of great stuff (albiet nothing truely historic) through my local library. Lots of people donate their old equipment to their
local library thinking that they'll make good use of it. My library however is a technological powerhouse and disposes of 95% of the computer
donations through their seasonal garage sales. Your local library might have some interesting stuff as well (at the very least, it's a great
way to get parts and older books/technical manuals). Swap meets and flea markets always attract large numbers of computer gurus who usually
have something they need to get rid of. Neighborhood garage sales will turn up old CP/M machines. And of course, newsgroups like these (I got
my Apple III+ that way). Old relatives also have a strage habit of having your dream system under an inch of dust in their basements
(especially the ones you would never associate with anything technical!).
Have fun..
