What do you mean, 'drop.' That's not exactly common terminology
that I've heard before.
If you mean 'drag to trash,' the Finder checks each file for lock
permissions, and such, I believe. If you meant 'delete,' the system is
doing the job of removing them from disk, searching around
directories, and assorted stuff. HD speed is probably the determining
factor here, not accelerated speed, as there's a fair amount of disk
access needed to look around directories, and modify stuff.
