There's a far simpler method that doesn't require half as much
work. M-q is bound to fill-paragraph, thus hitting 'Escape' then 'q'
will reformat the current paragraph to the default of 70 columns.
Very simple, very fast.
Emacs is a featureful program, but there is no need to make it any
more bloated or confusing.
