Unless there has been a change, Sequential Systems is supporting
RAMFast.
If your RAMFast works okay when the TWGS is not plugged in, it is not
clear that your RAMFast is faulty. Maybe the RAMFast shows a termination
error because it expects to find a device but nothing is plugged into it.
Try this test: Remove the RAMFast. With the TWGS plugged in, turn ON
the computer. After the computer gets tired of looking for a boot disk, do
a Reset and go to the Control Panel. Go to Slots. Set Startup Slot to 5.
Also, make sure Speed is set to Fast. Exit the Control Panel.
Put a System 5.04 boot disk into your 3.5" drive. If you don't have
one, then find some other non-ProDOS /8 disk that will boot a Finder or,
even, some IIgs application like PaintWorks Gold. Boot the disk.
Let the computer sit for 10-20 minutes. If the system has not bombed,
try using whatever stuff is available (like paint a picture). If the
system does not bomb; boot another IIgs application.
If, after a few hours, the system still seems to be working okay,
then there is a good chance that the TWGS is okay. (Perhaps there is
something wrong with the RAMFast or the RAMFast cable connecting to the
Hard Disk or the settings of RAMFast DIP switches or RAMFast defaults as
set via RAMFAST.SYSTEM or the Hard Disk or, even, Inits in the
SYSTEM/SYSTEM.SETUP folder or an NDA in the SYSTEM/DESK.ACCS folder.)
If the computer eventually bombs whatever IIgs disk you boot, there
is a decent chance something is wrong with the TWGS-- like the Oscillator
module is faulty or loose in its socket.
Go to the Control Panel and set Startup Slot back to the original
setting. Turn OFF the computer and remove the TWGS. Plug in the RAMFast
and connect the Hard Disk.
Turn ON the computer and run some IIgs applications from Hard Disk
(like Platinum Paint). If the computer does not bomb in a couple hours of
use, then RAMFast is probably okay and TWGS is even more likely to have a
problem.
Basically, the idea is to zero-in on the TWGS or RAMFast as the
problem source, if possible.
If the computer runs okay in both test situations, then something
about running RAMFast with the TWGS is a problem. (Such as the RAMFast
defaults may need to be set.) Or, you may have a problem with power line
glitching-- this is fairly common when a number of cards are plugged in
and current demands exceed Power Supply lead and/or Slot bus capabilities.
If the computer bombs in both test situations, the problem is likely
to be somewhere else-- like, you may have a faulty or overloaded Power
Supply. Or, as above, you may have a glitching problem. (Unless you have
some other power sucker, like a Second Sight board, plugged in, glitching
would normally not be a problem with TWGS or RAMFast removed.)
Whatever; be sure to post what you discover. Sooner or later a
for-real TWGS and/or RAMFast guru will notice and come up with specific
suggestions.
