The time frames didn't overlap. There's no way to directly compare.
But given the amount that Apple II users knew about their machines and 
the software that ran them, and compared to the same knowledge in Linux 
users, I'd say the Apple users on the average had more complete knowledge.
They had less unknowns that Linux users.

I find the hacker mentality (in the OLD, GOOD sense of the word) to be 
very similar in the two.
