: Hi Johnny:
: I had an AE Vulcan 40 meg H.D. in my GS for a few years and it worked
: just fine. Then it started to have "saved" files "unavailable" or
: "corrupted". Attempts to obtain these files were unsuccessful.
: Advice: Important files, save to disk.
: I upgraded the Vulcan drive to "Vulcan Gold" and this did not improve
: anything. (It was supposed to improve the speed of the drive but ....)
: I sold the upgrade to a fellow-club-member at LOGIC and he returned it
: to me, stating it appeared that the upgrade was imperfect.
: I gave up and bought a Quality Computers 240 meg Q-Drive.
: No problems since.
: Advice: Go cautiously with the Vulcan H.D. It could let you down.
: John.
On the other hand, I have a Vulcan 20Mb of unknown vintage in my GS, and
have had almost no trouble at all. I did have a couple of corrupted
directory entries back when the drive was nearly completely full, but I
did a manual backup, re-formatted the drive, and re-installed everything.
The corrupted files were program files, not data, so I didn't lose
anything. And I haven't had any trouble since, apart from the fact that I
have outgrown the 20Mb. Which is why I intend to put this 20Mb drive into
my ][e as soon as I come up with a "new" SCSI drive for the GS...
I really like the fact that it is all internal...makes it easy to take the
computer on the road if I have to.
