      You can. The cabinet sheet metal stuff is to keep down interference
with radio, TV, etc.. A good connection to the tower case may improve
overall suppression of interference.

     You should be able to leave it off, especially if your PC case has a
metal cover. One test is to click through Channels 1-13 on a TV in the
same room. Also, you can tune in around 750kHz on a radio in the same
room.

     Interference is very difficult to eliminate totally.

     If the 32kB is 2 16kB's, then, in 16kB config, you are telling Zip to
ignore the other 16kB.

     It sounds like 60Hz AC hum is getting into the signal path. You may
have a poor or 'dirty' contact at a cable plug-in. Long, poorly shielded
cables can pick up hum easily wherever you move them.
