Mike,
A couple of years ago, there used to be a commercial software package
called "CrossWorks" that provided some translation functions between the
Apple and IBM-clone platforms. I don't have any updated information
about the availability of this product anymore, unfortunately.
You might want to contact Quality Computers (800-777-ENHAnce,
313-774-7200, quality@pro-quality.cts.com, QC on GEnie, QualityCom on
AOL) to see if the product is still available. These folks are one of
the last vendors of Apple ][ products that I know of. If anyone
knows if a particular product exists, these folks should. :)
CrossWorks, as a translator, will only work on data files -- it will
take the data from a PC-based format and translate it into an Apple
][-based format, and vice versa. However, it will NOT translate
programs! In order to do that, you'll need to find the source code for
the programs in question and port them over to the Apple ][ platform
through rewriting/recompiling as necessary.
As to your question of an Apple ][ browser, I don't know of one. But,
I'm able to log onto the Internet using my Apple ][ through the
wonderfulness of my local free-net. Of course, doing so prevents me
from seeing graphics and all of the other niceties available to
PC-clones and Macintosh users, but at least I'm able to get on. In
fact, I've composed this response using my Apple //c connected to the
Internet via my free-net!
I hope this helps. Good luck.
Later...
